Lauren Jefferson is Editor-In-Chief within the Marketing and Communications Department. She supervises the production of Crossroads alumni magazine and Peacebuilder, the magazine of the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding, in addition to EMU news coverage and press releases.

Before joining EMU in March of 2015, Lauren was a freelance writer, journalist, newspaper editor and teacher. For six years, she was editor of three community weekly newspapers in the Shenandoah Valley. She has taught middle and high school English, reading and ESL, as well as adult ESL.

Lauren is completing a Master’s of Education in Cultural Diversity and Equity at James Madison University, with special interest in sport pedagogy, cultural competencies for coaches, and equitable opportunities for Limited English Proficient adolescents.

From 2013-15, Lauren was media relations director for the Valley Baseball League. She’s also worked for the last five years with the Rockingham County Baseball League, collecting more than 40 hours of oral histories from inductees into the RCBL Hall of Fame.

For 17 years, she has been a track and cross country coach with Harrisonburg City Public Schools, holding a USATF Level I Coaching Certification. A former competitive distance runner, she now tries to complete an embarrassingly low amount of weekly mileage.

A native of California and an avid traveler, she lives in Rockingham County with her husband.
