The marketing and communications department provides the following services to EMU programs and departments:


Our office is here to help design and print your publications. Project and office coordinator Jessica Hostetler processes print requests with designers Jon Styer and Lindsey Kolb. Jon can guide you through the proper steps in creating your own print piece and finding an appropriate copying and printing service, like the on-campus print shop.

Be sure to review the on-campus publicity guidelines and the EMU editorial style guide for all public communications before working on or distributing your own pieces.

*Business cards and letterhead orders are sent to print as a batch only at the beginning of each semester. This provides lower costs and faster delivery time.

Our office manages and designs the award-winning emu.edu website. Web staff includes Marcy Gineris, web content manager and strategist, and Caleb Hochstetler, web designer and analyst.

Many departments and offices have web editors who maintain and/or develop department-related web pages within the CMS, or content management system.

Event calendar

Marketing staff take cues from the university web calendar. EMU faculty and staff are expected to add program event information to the online calendar system via emu.edu/events/admin. All faculty and staff have access to the system via their Royals username and password. Special users are granted additional access – such as the power to delete events – by the web content manager/strategist. Students who coordinate events are granted access via their work-study accounts as needed.

Although not a photography service, our department supplies pictures for EMU publications and web pages. Submit a photo request to work with a photographer, to review our stock of EMU photos, or for help repurposing images.

Policy for faculty/staff personnel photos: In order to maintain a consistent style in all EMU marketing materials, both print and web, all personnel photos should be taken by the EMU marketing staff photographers. This policy ensures continuity of style: outdoor setting, no flash, and a shallow depth of field. Marketing staff coordinates at least one “photo day” per academic year, sometimes one per semester, to accommodate photography of new faculty and staff and those in need of updated portraits.

Crossroads and Peacebuilder magazines

Bonnie Price Lofton, university editor-in-chief, is the editor of these award-winning EMU magazines and also serves as the contact person for CJP news and the broader media.

Credit and attribution

Our office often credits student and staff writers, photographers and videographers whose work is used on the EMU video blog, the EMU news blog and within the annual EMU wall calendar. Though student and staff work may be featured in other marketing efforts, we do not routinely credit individual interns or staff whose work is used in advertisements, brochures and other print materials, on university web pages, social media, or email communications.
