Mathematics and/or Computer Science Education

EMU mathematics and/or computer science with a teaching licensure will prepare you to teach math or computer science for grades 6-12.

Mathematics with a secondary education teaching licensure

Mathematics is the language of problem-solving. As a math and computer science major at EMU you will explore logic, graph theory, number theory, geometry, math modeling, abstract algebra, analysis and probability. You will learn to communicate and teach mathematical ideas.

In addition to broad base of knowledge in mathematics, our education program will give you many opportunities for classroom observation and teaching, including a full semester of student teaching. Our teacher education program is nationally accredited through CAEP.

Computer Science with a secondary education teaching licensure

EMU’s computer science program seeks to produce skilled computing professionals with a respect for the cultural and social impact of computing technologies in our modern global community. The entire curriculum is designed to meet the ACM 2013 Curriculum guidelines. The department is working with the Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals to offer one of two possible certifications upon completion of either degree and successful completion of the CS2013 exam.
