DeAnne Chenoweth has been teaching in higher education for over 10 years, including the last two at EMU. DeAnne grew up in the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in St. Louis, Missouri. After graduating from Bethany College (Bethany, WV) with a degree in political science, she then pursued Master’s Degrees on both coasts. She earned an M.A. in International Studies at Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California, and an M.A. in Government & Politics at the University of Maryland, College Park.

DeAnne’s academic focus is on issues related to the international political economy of development and development assistance. She has done graduate field research in Japan along with undergraduate internships in both Paris and Washington, D.C. Her teaching interests center in political studies including human rights, comparative politics, international relations and constitutional law.

DeAnne is married to Joe Hinshaw, a professor in the School of Media Arts & Design at James Madison University. She is an active member at Trinity Presbyterian Church and the busy mom of two children.
