Esther Yoder Stenson grew up in Stuarts Draft, Virginia but spent eight years of her life outside the United States. She taught in El Salvador from 1974-77 and taught English in China for five non-consecutive years (‘84-‘85, ’90-‘92, and ’93 to ’95). China introduced her to her Minnesota husband, David. From 1995 to the present, Esther worked at JMU in the Writing Center, the English Dept. and Writing/Rhetoric Dept. She is the author of a collection of poetry, Miracle Temple (published by Cascadia Press), a booklet on Simple Amish Gardening (being published by Publications International) as well as other self-published documents. She continues to enjoy creative writing and family history, as well as gardening.
