Sustainability Coordinator

Jonathan Lantz-Trissel

EMU’s Sustainability Coordinator Jonathan Lantz-Trissel graduated from EMU in 2000 with B.A. in Sociology and Justice, Peace & Conflict Studies. As a student he was an active leader and organizer on and off campus, including two years chairing both Peacefellowship and Earthkeepers student organizations.

Jonathan became the EMU Recycling and Waste Reduction Manager in 2005. Under his leadership EMU Recycling became the first and only university recycling program in the U.S. to collect recycling using utility bicycle trailers rather than fossil-fueled trucks and vans.
In the fall of 2010 Jonathan took on the Sustainability Coordinator job at EMU. His work includes measuring and reducing the university’s carbon footprint, leading campus efforts to improve bicycle and pedestrian friendliness, speaking on and off campus on a variety of sustainability-related topics, and providing leadership for setting and attaining EMU’s long term sustainability goals.

Creation Care Council

EMU’s Creation Care Council grew out of a faculty, staff and student initiative to consider how the campus pulls together its theology of care for the earth with practical every-day decisions made across campus.
