Housing and Meals for Summer Institute
Eastern Mennonite University offers housing and some food on-campus for Summer Institute students.
On-campus housing may be arranged through Auxiliary Services at EMU. If you wish to arrange housing for the weeks of the Summer Institute please download and send in the housing request form. Costs are indicated on the form.
Some food options may be purchased through the Summer Institute for Spiritual Formation. The Institute begins with an orientation breakfast on Monday before the morning class begins. On the second Thursday evening a farewell “graduation” event with dessert bar is offered. Two healthy snacks per day may also be purchased. To purchase these meals fill out the Summer Institute Meals form by June 5. Payment for meals is expected at registration on Monday, June 15. These are paid separately from tuition. Apartments on campus have kitchens with a stove, oven and refrigerator, however, the kitchens will not be stocked with dishes so if you plan to make food in your apartment please bring or borrow the necessary equipment. The EMU dining hall or snack shop may have limited hours during the Summer Institute. A list of times will be provided in your registration packet. There are a few restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance and many more in the city of Harrisonburg.
All participants are strongly encouraged to sign up for the Retreat Day at Camp Overlook. This is a day of guided time as well as personal free time. Individual spiritual direction may be scheduled during the day. Lunch, healthy snacks and beverages are included in the fee.
