Second Degree

Previous learning is valued and recognized in applicants who have already earned a baccalaureate or higher degree, prior to choosing nursing as a career. Based on this, fewer nursing prerequisite and Global Village curriculum courses are required. Current requirements for second majors at EMU are 6 SH of cross-cultural (may be transferred), an Anabaptist Biblical Perspectives (ABP) course (3 SH), and Senior Seminar (2SH).

Other Prerequisites

Because nursing requires a strong psychosocial and physiological knowledge base, second degree students will be required to have completed an anatomy and physiology course, a course with chemistry (inorganic, organic, or biochemistry) content, and at least one psychology and one sociology course. Social science courses (not anatomy and physiology) can be taken with the first semesters of nursing, load permitting.

Application

The nursing major may be entered in August or January. Each applicant's course record will be reviewed individually. Depending on the academic work done by the applicant, a course in interpersonal relationship skills maybe accepted as transfer credit to meet nursing requirements.
