A graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School (Lancaster, PA) and Eastern Mennonite University, Rachel began her professional career as a foster care and adoption services social worker. After a term of service with Mennonite Central Committee Roth Sawatzky studied Sociology of Religion at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology (Atlanta, GA), served in various congregational roles, as well as co-owner of a family owned small business. Roth Sawatzky then took a position at Bethany Christian Schools (Goshen, IN) as Director of Admissions, before accepting the role of Director of Student Programs and Orientation at Eastern Mennonite University, fall 2013.

Originally from Durham, North Carolina, Phil graduated from Eastern Mennonite University in 2011. Phil began his work in admissions after earning a B.S. in Business Administration, and he worked primarily with prospective students from NC and VA, including Harrisonburg city and Rockingham county.
After two years in Admissions, Phil stepped into the role of Assistant Director of Student Programs and Orientation. He thoroughly enjoys inspiring student leaders at EMU and impacting the campus through student programming. He is also enrolled in the MBA program part-time.
