Dr. Gingerich helped generations of students to think of their faith in new ways. He had a passion for teaching. He also had a passion for peace and justice, helping to establish a well-received major in justice, peace and conflict studies.

In retirement, Gingerich helped found the Anabaptist Center for Religion and Society at EMU, drawing especially on the talents and experience of retired scholars.
