Tom Long earned a BA in History and Political Science from Bridgewater College and a MEd in Social Studies Education from the University of Virginia. He taught Government, AP Government, Economics, and other social studies courses at Buffalo Gap High School in Augusta County for 30 years. Tom also coached softball as well as other sports and the academic team, served as department chair, on the school improvement team, and in a variety of other leadership roles at BGHS. He was involved in the MidValley Consortium for Teacher Education from its inception and mentored many student teachers. Tom was selected as the Fellow in Virginia Government and served for one year as Director of the Teacher Resource Service at what is now the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia.
