Campus Activities Council

The Campus Activities Council (CAC) works hard year-round to build relationships within the campus community, as well as provide creative and positive entertainment that engages the entire campus and student body.

Activities are based on good stewardship principles, and are developed and implemented with much care and consideration of the students’ time and money.

Staff advisors

Faculty and staff advisors from the student life division are Laurie Miller , director of student programs and recreational sports, and Doug Wandersee , assistant director of student programs. Doug also oversees Common Grounds coffeehouse and the game room.

Committees

The council also provides opportunity for CAC members to build life skills by working together and forming four committees: recreation and social, film, publicity, and sound technician. The duties of each committee chair are as follows:

Recreation and Social

  1. Coordinate the Recreation and Social Program which includes Late Night Bowling, Late Night in the Commons, Fallfest, Springfest, the Semi-Formal and other related activities (skiing, rafting, sports outings, etc.). Minimum three per month.
  2. Work with Publicity Chair to ensure timely and comprehensive promotional efforts across campus and the community if applicable.
  3. Work with Director of Student Programs in the contracting process.
  4. Supervise and manage volunteers.

Films:

  1. Coordinate the films selection process, including the survey and scheduling the showtimes.
  2. Oversee the Friday and Saturday movies, including ticket/candy sales, popcorn making and running the movie.
  3. Pick up/return films to/from the Learning Resources office in the library.
  4. Maintain adequate popcorn/refreshments and supplies.
  5. Work with Director of Student Programs in the contracting process.
  6. Supervise and manage staff and volunteers.

Publicity:

  1. Coordinate publicity efforts for all committees including easel posters, bulletin board posters, campus mailings, email, chapel announcements, WeatherVane, web calendar, etc.
  2. Assist with the organization, production, and distribution of the EMU Student Activity Calendar (published monthly).
  3. Work with Director of Student Programs in the contracting process.
  4. Supervise and manage volunteers.

Sound Technician:

  1. Run the coffeehouse concerts (two to three per month) with volunteers.
  2. Oversee other events around campus that require sound equipment and support.
  3. Maintain an organized and working inventory of all sound equipment.
  4. Assist in the purchase of new equipment, as necessary.
  5. Work with Director of Student Programs in the contracting process.
  6. Supervise and manage volunteers.
