My favorite campus activity:
I love going to the movies they show in the Science Center every weekend. They’re only $1.50 with my student ID. I really like that they show a wide variety of films, from “Evan Almighty” to “Ocean’s 13.”
My favorite class at EMU (and why):
Right now I’m taking Acting I, which goes towards my Theatre major. It’s a small class, so we get to know each other very well with the exercises and scenes we do in class. Every class period we take time to stretch and relax our bodies, which I really appreciate. The teacher, Heidi Winters-Vogel, is really nice and guides us in ways we can improve our acting skills.
My favorite EMU memory so far:
A couple weekends ago I went with a bunch of friends to Charlottesville, which is a little over an hour away, to go ice skating. I had so much fun! After skating, we walked around for a bit in this really cool shopping area. One of my friends is from Charlottesville, so we got to go over to his house and have a yummy, home-cooked meal from his parents.
My favorite intramural season:
Right now the floor hockey intramural season is going on. A bunch of my friends are on a team called “Charlotte’s Web.” (The story behind the name is a long one…) I love going to the games, which are played on the outside basketball courts, and cheering them on.
My favorite reason to get off campus:
College night at the local IHOP! Every Wednesday EMU and JMU students get half of their meal with their student IDs. It’s a great time to relax and hang out with friends after a long day of studying.
The most surprising thing about EMU:
There is so much to do, even though it’s a relatively small campus! I’ve gone to volleyball, soccer, and field hockey games, as well intramural games. Several nights a week I’ll go down to Common Grounds, an on-campus cafe-type place with smoothies and coffee and such. Sometimes I’ll do homework there for a different atmosphere than my room, or a lot of times I’ll just eat and chill with friends. Celebration, a contemporary worship time, happens every Sunday evening and is completely student-led. It’s a great time of worship and reflection right before jumping back into another busy week. I also go to a number of the movies shown in the Science Center every weekend.
My favorite residence hall:
This is a tough one…I live in Northlawn, the all-girls dorm, but a lot of my friends live in Elmwood, so I’m down there a good bit of the time. When I want to study I like my quiet, air-conditioned room, but when I just want to hang out with friends, I go to Elmwood.
