Each year nearly 80 students who started their college careers somewhere else transfer to Eastern Mennonite University to join a Christian community with stimulating academic programs.
If you are a Blue Ridge Community College or Hesston College student, EMU has something special to offer you!
Admission Checklist
- Apply
for admission. Include an application fee of $25 and references.
- Have transcripts sent from your high school and previous
college(s).
A minimum average GPA of 2.0 is expected. - Print and complete the Student Life Transfer Recommendation Form
- Fill out forms in financial assistance packet (sent to you after you apply for admission) by March 1
- Sign student aid report and send to EMU.
- Pay tuition deposit.
- Return housing form.
- Have final transcript sent from previous college(s) after final semester there.
- Attend Summer Registration if possible, to register early for fall semester classes.

Transferring Credits
You may transfer a maximum of 65 semester hours from two-year colleges. (Hesston College students may transfer up to 75 hours.) In most cases, if your credit is from an accredited four-year college, you can transfer previous work without difficulty.
In general, credit with a grade of "C" or better will transfer. Quality points and grades do not transfer. You must complete a minimum of 48 graded semester hours at EMU to qualify for graduation honors.

The final 32 semester hours before graduation must be completed in residence at EMU. At least 9 hours for your major and 6 hours for any minor must be completed in residence.
EMU will prepare an evaluation of transfer credit (rating sheet) for you, if you'd like. You will be charged a $25 fee, which will be applied toward the application fee when you apply for admission.
Graduation Requirements
Four-year programs of study at EMU lead to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree or the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree.
The Global Village Curriculum, designed to educate you as a world citizen, will be the foundation of your studies at EMU. Flexibility is built into the curriculum, so that it will mesh with your major course of study.
The Cross-Cultural Program, one of the best of its kind in the country, will take you to another culture overseas or in the U.S. You will receive an education that reaches far beyond the classroom.
Financial Assistance
EMU will prepare a financial assistance package that works for you. We are committed to providing an estimate of financial aid as soon as possible after receiving the results of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Financial assistance includes scholarships, grants, loans and work-study. You may be eligible for an academic achievement scholarship if your previous college grade point average meets requirements.
EMU requires transfer students to submit a financial assistance transcript from their previous college. Contact the financial aid office for help.Visit EMU's Campus
You are invited to visit EMU during one of the campus visit days or whenever it is convenient for you. You will receive free meals in the cafeteria and free lodging with current students. Some travel reimbursement is also available.
While you're here, it is recommended that you- Meet with your admissions counselor.
- Visit with the academic advisor you are paired with.
- Ask for a personal transcript evaluation to determine transfer of credits.
