The Eastern Mennonite boys of summer had been looking to start spring a bit early this year, but the forecasted winter weather has cancelled their season-opening doubleheaders this weekend. The Royals baseball team had been slated for twinbills at Ferrum and Greensboro this Saturday and Sunday, but both dates have been called off. No decision has been made on make-up plans. Eastern Mennonite baseball coach Mark Mace announced that he and his staff are hosting a preseason camp for high school players. The camp is January 24 and January 31, with a three-hour hitting camp followed by a three-hour pitcher/catcher camp. EMU coaches will staff the event, providing one-on-one college instruction. The Eastern Mennonite fall intrasquad baseball games known as the Blue/White World Series completed play Saturday and the blue team won 2 games to 1. The blue team won 15-11 Friday, led by a mixture of returning players and transfers. Saturday featured stronger pitching with white winning game two, 8-2, and blue closing out the rubber match, 2-1.
