Harlan de Brun, Head Coach (12th Season - Springfield)

The 2007 tennis season will be the 12th for Harlan de Brun at Eastern Mennonite University. He began coaching the men's program at EMU in 1996 and rebuilt the program into a competitor in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, peaking with a third place finish and a record of 9-4 in 2001. He was named ODAC Coach of the Year in 2001.

In 1999, de Brun started the women's tennis program at EMU and led the Lady Royals to a runner-up finish with a record of 12-3 in their second season in 2000. He has coached several all-conference players in both programs and last year also coached the ODAC Female Rookie of the Year.

Prior to EMU, de Brun coached at Christopher Dock Mennonite High School, winning four league titles and accumulating a 71-20 overall record. In addition, he has coached three years as an assistant with Academics for African Athletes and served five years as assistant coach for the women's basketball program while at EMU. He was also Director of Tennis at Spotswood Country Club from 1996 to 1999 and in 2000 was a finalist in the Daily News Record tennis tournament.

De Brun played collegiate tennis at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass. He then went on to receive his Masters of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Hamilton, Mass. He currently also worked as an instructor in the EMU Physical Education and Recreation Department. In addition, de Brun leads cross cultural classes to Africa, where he previously served as a missionary.

Harlan lives in Harrisonburg with his wife Claire, who teaches at Turner Ashby High School. His son, Guy, teaches at the University of Maine in Orono, Maine. Saran is a social worker in Boston and his daughter, Ruth, is a teacher in Boston.
