After numerous awards and medals on and off the track, Michelle Leaman is closing out her collegiate career in a fitting way for a student-athlete. Eastern Mennonite's hurdler Michelle Leaman is again gaining national attention. Leaman, who holds six school records, graduated this spring with a perfect 4.0 grade point average and was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 3 First Team. The recognition was voted on and awarded by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This is the second time that Leaman, who earned degrees in Spanish and Education (Pre K-12), has been named to the All-District First Team as she held the honor in 2008 as well. (Jun 4) [More]
Eastern Mennonite University has announced the resignation of cross country and track & field coach, Matt Dougherty, effective at the end of May. Dougherty was hired last summer as EMU's first combined head coach of the two sports, but he and his wife/assistant coach, Mary, are resigning with plans to move closer to their families. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships were Friday and Saturday, Apr. 23 & 24, at Bridgewater College. Eastern Mennonite sent its small women's squad, which took sixth and was highlighted by a number of personal records and season bests. Small meets suit the Eastern Mennonite women's track & field team just fine, as the Royals sent five athletes to Saturday's Blue and Silver Challenge hosted by Christopher Newport University.
