EMU Scopes Out Lessons at Oberlin’s Environmental Center

A contingent of EMU representatives visited Oberlin (Ohio) College on Sept. 14, 2007, to learn about their ground-breaking Adam Joseph Lewis Environmental Studies Center.
The center is an example of green building that, at times, produces more energy than it uses and processes its own waste water through a "living machine." The EMU group hoped to gain ideas and insights as they plan for EMU's anticipated renovation of -- and addition to -- Suter Science Center.
Participants included (pictured left to right):
- Eldon Kurtz, physical plant director;
- Doug Graber Neufeld, associate professor of biology;
- Kirk Shisler, vice president for advancement;
- Loren Swartzendruber, president;
- Wayne Witmer of Harman Construction, Harrisonburg, Va.;
- Andy Dula, EMU board of trustees;
- Chris Mast of Mast and Brunk Mechanical, Harrisonburg, Va.;
- Jason Garber, web and new media coordinator;
- Jim Yoder, associate professor of biology;
- Jonathan Lantz-Trissel, waste reduction and recycling coordinator;
- student Laura Cattell;
- student Matt Alison;
- Andrea S. Wenger, marketing and communications director;
- student Emma Stahl-Wert.
