EMU is planning for the 10-year re-accreditation of the university by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). As part of this preparation, we are proposing a revision to the EMU vision, mission and values statement and, as required by SACS, choosing a topic for a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) to improve student learning. Below are three possible QEP options we are considering. We invite your conversations on the QEP options and the proposed revision to our vision, mission and values statement.

Proposed changes to the Eastern Mennonite University Vision, Mission and Values Statement
Edit: You may want to reference the current Mission, Vision and Values Statement. Text in bold face below is new or modified
Eastern Mennonite University is an educational institution of Mennonite Church USA offering undergraduate, graduate, and seminary degrees.
Vision
EMU envisions a learning community marked by academic excellence, creative process, professional competence, and passionate Christian faith, offering healing and hope in our diverse world. To this end, we commit ourselves to
do justice,
love mercy, and
walk humbly with God.
Mission
EMU educates students to serve and lead in a global context. Our Christian community challenges students to pursue their life calling through scholarly inquiry, artistic creation, guided practice, and life-changing cross-cultural encounter. We invite each person to follow Christ’s call to:
live faithfully,
serve compassionately, and
walk boldly in the way of nonviolence and peace.
Shared Values
EMU embodies the enduring values of the Anabaptist tradition:
Christian discipleship,
community,
service, and
peacebuilding.
Together we worship God, seek truth and care for God’s creation.

EMU is committed to sustainability. A Creation Care Council is currently at work envisioning ways to BE GREEN. A QEP focused on Creation Care could provide resources to guide the process toward extending our misson of peace
and reconciliation to the whole of creation.

Last year’s Academic Structure Task Force recommended that EMU create a Center for Teaching and Learning. A QEP that created a Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) would provide resources for faculty and students so that good teachers could become better and student learning could be enhanced.

A current task force related to residence life is considering program changes along with new facilities. A QEP focused on Residential Living and Learning Communities would integrate learning in the classroom and residence halls. Groups of students would choose particular themes for study and interaction and might also take some of the same classes together.
