"Building Your Business and Your Integrity" led by Allon Lefever
Leadership is a reciprocal relationship. But how do you as a leader build credibility, "model the way" in your organization, and build a positive corporate culture? Allon will share personal experiences and suggestions on ways to integrate personal values into your organizations and to lead with integrity from your inner self.
February 22
"Cultural Awareness Matters: Effective Communication in Today’s Diverse Workplace" led by Elaine Zook Barge
As the diversity of the Shenandoah Valley increases, the need to understand our own and others' way of doing things also increases. Cultural differences can provide both richness and pain to our lives, and communication often determines which it will be. Elaine will look at some general differences between cultures as well as specific communication/work-related experiences from the Valley.
February 29
"Personality and Communication Styles at Work" led by Amy Potter & Susan Landes Beck
Each of us has a unique way of leading and working with others. Using the Gilmore-Fraleigh Styles Profile for Communication at Work, we will learn the strengths and “excesses” of our style along with specific tools to communicate and work with others given their particular styles. This is a must for anyone working in teams and especially those who are managing others. We guarantee some “aha” moments about people's mysterious behavior! The Gilmore-Fraleigh manual is included in the seminar fee; participants will be sent a 15-minute style profile to complete prior to the seminar.
March 28
"Practical Leadership: Using Your Style to Effectively Lead" led by Terry Whitmore
Now that you know your communication style, what is your style of leading and how can you use this to manage others effectively? In this seminar, participants will receive and complete the Leadership Effectiveness and Adaptability Description (LEAD). This instrument provides insights into a person's primary and secondary leadership styles and their associated effectiveness in directing and managing others. The seminar will also highlight motivational theory and its practical implications on management and leadership styles.
April 11
"Transforming Conflict Among Team Members" led by Nancy Good Sider, Cheryl Talley and P. Marshall Yoder
As a leader in any for-profit or not-for-profit organization, you deal with conflict. How do you coach others to manage their own conflict? When do you intervene and what skills do you need to have? How do you manage someone else's anger? This seminar will provide practical skills to manage interpersonal conflict, as well as systems for managing organizational conflict.
April 25
"Negotiation Skills for Leaders" led by Jayne Docherty
In a diverse workplace, it is sometimes difficult for leaders to negotiate a win-win outcome because the parties see the world differently and describe the problem differently. So how can you find the win-win? This seminar will help you understand how to find the win-win and help parties negotiate through difficult situations. (Participants will receive a copy of Jayne’s book on "Strategic Negotiation.")
