About the Program
"Responding to Gods Call: Do Justice, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly with God" Mission:
EMU Community Learning is a partnership joining EMU students, faculty, staff and the community in developing and experiencing intentional learning opportunities which foster increased academic learning and understanding between the EMU community and the community at large. |

What is Community Learning?
As an approach to and a goal of EMU’s educational endeavor, Community Learning promotes interaction with the greater community through activities that:
- promote experiential learning so that students gain a deeper understanding of academic content by putting theoretical concepts into practice;
- critique and develop theoretical learning based on real world praxis;
- build community partnerships between EMU and the greater local community to address needs and concerns that impact us all;
- instill and foster in students a sense of “other,” that we are inter-connected as humans and as Christians called to love others;
- enable students to explore and reflect on their vocation as Christians and how they will live this out using their interests and gifts.
EMU Community Learning Goals
To link academic learning with intentional service experience in the local community. To promote an understanding of the rich diversity that is shared by our local community. To challenge students to explore a variety of vocational settings. To develop a life-long commitment to social justice and community involvement.
