Required Passing Scores For Initial Teacher Licensure In Virginia

Entry assessments for EMU teacher education program

Entry assessments for admission to Eastern Mennonite University’s teacher education program are outlined in the licensure and program exam requirements PDF and in the teacher education handbook.

Assessments include minimum scores on the Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA) and a basic skills assessment that can be met with minimum passing scores on the SAT, ACT, or Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (Reading, Writing, and Mathematics) tests.

Praxis testing information and preparation materials are available in the education department office.

Praxis Subject Assessments and RVE Requirements

A Praxis Subject Assessment is required for all program areas. Additionally the Reading for Virginia Educators (RVE) test is required for Early Childhood Education (PreK-3), Elementary Education (PreK-6), and Special Education program areas. There are frequently changes to which assessments are required as the tests are updated. Contact the education department office for qualifying tests and scores if you took an older test (such as a Praxis II test). Current information is outlined on this page in PDF format.
