"College and Camden"
Hello my fellow readers. I am so sorry I neglected you, things have
been
quite busy around EMU. Well let me try and catch you up! I finished
my
first semester alive, it was a great accomplishment! I feel like the
whole
year has flown by so fast, it seems like just yesterday I was involved
in
the "getting to know you" activites during the first week
of college.
I feel like being at EMU and experiencing college life in general
has
helped me to grow in many ways alread. It has given me a global
perspective on many issues and given me alot of questions to ponder.
For spring break I went on a Y- trip, it's one of the various service
trips that EMU offers for spring break. I went to Camden, New Jersey
with
ten other students. It was an amazing week! I feel like I learned
so much
while being in Camden and that it forced me to face current global
issues
that are easy to avoid while being in college. We were hosted by the
lovely Camden House, it is a house that practices the "ministry
of being"
in their everyday life. They literally are college graduates living
amongst the poor which has made such an impact in the community. Camden
is
currently the worst city in America. It was so amazing because we
were all
living in the same environment that the Camden House experiences everyday!
I worked at a local daycare which was so much fun! The trip made me
think
of many issues or problems today that American people are still dealing
with. For example, it is the worst city in America... why are most
of the
people living there minorities? Well lets just say the trip forced
me to
consider alot of things in my own life, which is the point of the
service
trip! It was awesome to get to know fellow EMU students that I have
never
really spent time with yet.
Oh now the semester is starting to pick up so I better get started!
Happy
Spring and Saint Patrick's Day!
