First day of classes
August 31, 2005Today was the very first day of classes at EMU! I only had two classes this morning, one at eight o'clock and one at nine. So, by ten this morning, I was finished with classes for the day. At first, the homework and the reading seemed a little overwhelming, especially the reading. I worked for a good part of the afternoon on my Spanish homework and for a little bit...
More »Living on my own
August 29, 2005Wow...this has been an interesting weekend! On Saturday, we finally kissed our parents goodbye. I was surprised at how little emotion I felt as I said goodbye, but I do think that right now all of the new experiences and people are covering some of the feelings that may come later. Of course, my mom fell apart, and my dad gave me a big hug. It still doesn't seem like...
More »Rubbermaid boxes and minivans
August 26, 2005Well, I think I've seen enough Rubbermaid boxes, minivans, and CSI shirts for a day...It is not too late, but I am so tired from moving in and playing the "Mennonite" game with every single person who passes my parents and smiles at them. I arrived on campus a little before nine this morning, so I was one of the first incoming students here. Everyone was so helpful and excited...
More »Hitting the road
August 25, 2005In about 15 minutes, my parents and I are hitting the road! Today is our "driving day" to make the 8 1/2 hour trip from Archbold to Harrisonburg. Tomorrow I will finally get to move in! Our van is packed with stuff almost to the ceiling-I hope I didn't bring too much! If I did, I know that I can always send it home with my parents. I am so...
More »Last day of this town
August 23, 2005One more day in Archbold. Tomorrow will be my last day of this town for awhile. Kacie, one of my best friends, leaves tomorrow morning for Grand Valley State University in Michigan. It was sad to see another friend leave...Kacie is the third goodbye:( I think we stood in her garage for an hour figuring out how we were going to finally say bye. We just kept thinking of things...
More »"Lasts" and "firsts"
August 21, 2005I am finally done working for the summer-SO LONG ARCHBOLD SWIMMING POOL! I'm sure I'll be back next year, but it feels pretty awesome to wrap up my summer job. Today it was hot and sunny, so there were lots of people who came out to enjoy the day. My friends and I spent our last Saturday night together playing tennis in the park-it was comical! We did more laughing...
More »Started packing
August 18, 2005This morning I started packing for EMU! Actually, I just washed a bunch of towels and sheets and laid them out on the pile, and I mean PILE, of things to go with me. It's funny how buying little things like a laundry basket and a phone seem so fun! Now it's exciting to start to see everything coming together. Emily, my roommate, seems very cool, and I can't wait...
More »Good memories and goodbyes
August 17, 2005Sometimes you don't realize how much you have until you have to let it go. This time of year, there are many times to let people go. Last night, I said goodbye to one of my closest friends. It was only after I said goodbye that I realized how great our friendship was. She has stuck beside me for as long as she has known me. She is really a...
