one last entry
April 28, 2006
Freshman year of college is officially over. I had my last final exam this morning, which went well. It is quite a relief to finally be finished studying and taking tests. It's been a busy week of balancing cramming for exams and spending time with friends before saying goodbye. It's sad to see everyone leave for the summer. I have to stick around for a few more days, because my sister is graduating on Sunday, so I have a few days in between here to pack up my room and relax. The room looks so boring and bare with everything off the walls and most things in boxes.
This year went faster than I ever could have imagined. It had its ups and downs, as any year does. The past few weeks have been especially fun, with the warm weather. Everyone was outside all the time, and I think when the sun shines it generally makes people happier.
As I was reflecting on the school year, I realized that in addition to college in general, there are many things that I have experienced for the first time since arriving in Harrisonburg in August. So, to wrap up my final journal entry, I decided to make a list of all the "firsts" from this year. I'm sure that I missed some, but it was still fun to reminisce.
Things I have experienced for the first time this year:
a corn dog
goat meat
IHOP
sunset over the gulf
four naps in one day
studying over 5 hours for an exam
dressing as a goth and walking around DC
writing my own check
eating only salads for a week
sleeping outside in subfreezing weather for a week
flushing a phone down the toilet
greek food
riding a train
a long Christmas break without any homework
purposefully skipping class
sleeping in until 10 or 11 on a school day
learning that I say "half" with an accent
being given multiple nicknames
running an electrophoresis gel on DNA
using guache to paint
not playing an organized sport
winning an intramural championship
attending a taize service
having an air-conditioned room
watching the Wizard of Oz
a Virginia sunrise
exploring the National Gallery of Art
driving 20 hours in less than 3 days
playing stickball until 2 AM
meeting many awesome friends from all over the country...
