Richard (Rick) Yoder mixes teaching and research at EMU with international development consulting in low-income countries. He first came to EMU in 1985 after working five years in Bangladesh on a United Nations project and in Swaziland on a U.S. Agency for International Development project. At EMU his teaching is in the areas of economics, development, and management. He has published in the areas of health economics, management, and privatization, and recently completed a co-authored book manuscript Development to a Different Drummer: As if Values Mattered. He has also worked long term in Kenya, Jordan, and Afghanistan and has done short-term development consulting in 15 some countries with a variety of private sector consulting firms, bi-lateral and multi-lateral development agencies. Rick has an interdisciplinary PhD combining public policy, economic development and public administration as well as a masters degree in public health. He and his wife Carolyn have three young adult daughters.
