A large group of things gathered together (Goal 7)

chemical used to cure illness and diseases (Goal 4)

basic sanitation

A maintenance of clean, hygienic conditions that help prevent the spread of disease through services such as garbage collection and wastewater disposal (Goal 7)

benefit

An advantage, profit, or gain attained by an individual or organization (Goal 7)

caregivers

adults in charge of providing protection and basic care for a child. *

child mortality

the number of deaths of children under age 5 per 1000 people in a population per year (Goal 5)

civil conflict

sustained, serious actions that involves a large fraction of the population and pose a serious challenge to the peace of the country. Examples: civil war, rebellions, insurrections, political revolutions, social revolutions, genocides.

any of several retroviruses and especially HIV-1 that infect and destroy helper T cells of the immune system causing the marked reduction in their numbers that is diagnostic of AIDS -- called also AIDS virus,human immunodeficiency virus

malnutrition

The lack of proper human diet (Goal 2). Faulty nutrition due to inadequate or unbalanced intake of nutrients usually having to do with starving and hunger.

Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

In September 2000, leaders from 189 nations agreed on a vision for the future: a world with less poverty, hunger and disease, greater survival prospects for mothers and their infants, better educated children, equal opportunities for women, and a healthier environment; a world in which developed and developing countries worked in partnersh ip for the betterment of all. This vision took the shape of eight Millennium Development Goals, which provide a framework for development planning for countries around the world, and time-bound targets by which progress can be measured. The eight MDGs range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015. *

tariff

This is a tax that is set on goods coming into a country (Goal 8)

terrestrial

Having to do with the earth or land (Goal 7)

treatment

the manner of dealing with a person or thing; the application of drugs to cure disease or infection (Goal 6)

tuberculosis (TB)

a disease of the lung (Goal 6); a highly variable communicable disease of humans that affects especially the lungs but may spread to other areas (as the kidney or spinal column), and that is characterized by fever, cough, difficulty in breathing, formation of tubercles

unemployment

a situation where people have no jobs (Goal 8)

universal

including or covering all or a whole collectively without limit or exception; especially: available equitably to all members of a society <universal health coverage>

vaccine-preventable

a disease that can be prevented by vaccine: a preparation of killed microorganisms, living attenuated organisms, or living fully virulent organisms that is administered to produce or artificially increase immunity to a particular disease

vaccine

A product that produces immunity therefore protecting the body from the disease (Goal 6)

viability

The ability to live and develop normally (Goal 7)

victims

a person who has been injured by an action or something beyond their control (Goal 6)

vitamin

substance that is necessary for good health (Goal 1)

vulnerable

Capable of being damaged (Goal 7); a person that is likely to be harmed physically or psychologically.*
