Web Design Standards

University web sites are a key factor in recruitment and public perception. They strongly impact the impressions alumni, parents, donors, and the media, have of the school. Visitors connect a well-designed, friendly web site with a well-designed, friendly school.

Web Site Management

Management of EMU's web site is a cooperative effort. A web content editor in the marketing and communications department oversees the site's content, working closely with a web designer and the web server administrator and programmers in the information systems department.

Because of the large amount of content on the site, departments often assign someone to maintain departmental web pages. These curators have full access to and responsibility for a given section of the EMU web site.

Although curators are encouraged to take initiative and use creativity in the development of their pages, some limitations and professional oversight are necessary to ensure usability, good information design, and a consistent look and feel throughout the EMU web site.

Web Policies

This online manual is the point of reference for the editorial, web, and graphic standards of the EMU web site. Site-wide maintenance of these standards will assure that the EMU web conveys a polished, professional appearance that will benefit the school's image.

All EMU web pages should adhere to the web design standards described in this manual and also in the editorial style guide to maintain the visual and aesthetic quality of the EMU web site.

Web site personnel reserve the right to either change a page or take the page off-line if it does not meet these standards.
