Audition Procedures

Students with a concentration in music performance or music education are required to audition in a major performance area. (No audition is required for interdisciplinary studies in music, or for a music minor)

Requirements

  • Perform two works of contrasting character.
For instrumentalists: these might include a fast and slow work, and/or pieces from different historical eras.
For vocalists: one foreign language piece and one English language piece. The English language selection may derive from traditional classical repertoire (art song, oratorio, etc.) or from the musical theater genre. Both works together should not exceed ten minutes duration.
  • The department encourages vocalists to bring their own accompanist. (contact the department if this is not possible)
  • Instrumentalists will perform unaccompanied.
  • In the event a member of the Scholarship Committee is not present, a videotape will be made of the audition for purposes of adjudication.

Scholarships

Apply now for up to $5,000 a year in music scholarships! On-campus auditions will be held February 4 and March 18, 2023. Audio/video auditions are due by March 18, 2023. (If you cannot attend one of dates above, please contact Dr. David Berry to arrange for an alternate audition date.)
