Laboratory Demonstrations

A student first encounters principles and techniques of various health care procedures in modules. Then before going to a clinical site to do hands-on experience, the student demonstrates psychomotor procedural skills in the laboratory under supervision.

These step-by-step laboratory procedures include:

  • Administration of oral and topical medications
  • Dressing change
  • Indwelling catheterization and irrigation
  • Isolation technique
  • Physical examination
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Changing an IV bottle or bag, care of central lines
  • Gastrointestinal intubation, irrigation, and removal
  • etc.

The student develops critical thinking and decision-making skills through simulation of clinical scenarios in the laboratory. The simulated situations allows the student to assess, provide care and evaluate outcomes in a safe environment.
