Phoebe Kilby, Grad Cert ’04, has taken Bonnie Price Lofton’s place as associate director of development for the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding (CJP).
Kilby, a 2004 classmate of Lofton’s, is well known to the faculty and students of CJP since she has never stopped taking courses at CJP since her first class in 2003.
“I don’t feel I need another degree [she has a biology masters from Duke], but I just love taking CJP courses,” explains Kilby. “The more I learn, the more I want to continue learning about this field and to continue meeting amazing people who are working on behalf of peace and justice.
One of her first activities as an EMU staff member was to rally 21 students and staff to join her in a “unity walk” in Washington D.C. in mid-September. The walk involved hundreds of people walking the streets in a show of interfaith peace witnessing. (See page 24.)
Kilby brings a business background to her development work. She has worked with her husband, John, as an environmental and land-use planning consultant for 20 years. She has been a volunteer fundraiser for a number of non-profits, including serving as president of the board for the Response, the domestic violence program in Shenandoah County, Virginia.
Lofton continues to work in EMU’s Advancement Division as EMU publications editor and CJP communications coordinator. She edits Peacebuilder and writes most of its articles.
