Unity Walk Marks 9/11

Fifteen CJP students and six staff members marked the 5th anniversary of 9/11 by joining hundreds in a Gandhi-style “unity walk” with stops at the various houses of worship along Embassy Row in Washington D.C.
In what was believed to be an unprecedented show of interfaith cooperation in downtown D.C., at least one church, synagogue, mosque, temple and gurdwara opened their doors to each other and to visits by the unity walkers.
The mission statement of the walkers read:
“We walk together as neighbors from many faiths and cultures. We gather in peace to demonstrate our unity, recalling the spirit of togetherness that grew out of 9/11. We commemorate this day because concern for each other’s welfare is the shared hope of us all.”
CJP’s new development officer, Phoebe Kilby, organized the two vanloads of students and staff who walked in D.C. on Sunday, Sept. 10.
