Clery Campus Security Report 2006-07:
Introduction
The “Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act” requires colleges and universities to report annually certain information regarding their campus security policies and campus crime statistics. Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) prepares this report to inform the campus community, visitors, and the general public of the university's policies and procedures for campus safety and security, and to comply with the Act.
EMU strives to maintain a safe campus environment in which to live, learn, and work. Though emergencies and incidents of serious crime are relatively few at EMU, it is crucial that all members of the campus community recognize reportable incidents and understand the procedures for reporting such incidents to appropriate persons. EMU’s security programs include awareness seminars for all students, through training of residential-life staff, and campus security personnel.
Eastern Mennonite University is located in Harrisonburg , Virginia , a growing city with a diverse population (approx. 43,000) located in the scenic Shenandoah Valley. EMU’s campus consists of approximately 90 acres with 42 buildings and several athletic playing fields. The campus offers a variety of student housing options in six residence halls and 50+ apartments in 8 buildings. All University owned and operated housing is located within the perimeters of the campus. The University has an enrollment of approximately 1,600 students and a workforce of approximately 370.
Annual Campus Safety and Security Report
The EMU Campus Safety and Security Report includes statistics for the previous three calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus and on public property immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as policies concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
Timely Warnings
When there are security related incidents that the public should be aware of, the vice president for student life and/or the director of physical plant initiates a “timely alert” to the campus community through e-mail and on the university website.
