Future home of the Suter Science Complex

The state-of-the-art Suter Science Complex will more than double the current classroom and lab space at EMU, and will be completed in two phases:

Phase I – Construction of a New Laboratory Building

The new approximately 50,000 sq. ft. laboratory building featuring new teaching labs for biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, biomedicine, and more.

Phase II – Renovation of the Existing Facility

The renovated Suter Science Center will provide 48,000 sq. ft. of classroom and practicum space for nursing, mathematics, computer science, psychology, and other programs.

Key Features

Once both phases are complete, the 98,000 sq. ft. facility will feature:

  • Several state-of-the-art student and faculty research labs
  • 19 teaching labs and classrooms
  • Improved lighting and circulation
  • New equipment and updated technology
  • Environmentally controlled cadaver prep area
  • Large nursing education center (over 3,000 sq. ft.)
  • New greenhouse to support student and faculty research
  • Refurbished main lecture hall
  • Increased storage capacity
  • Refurbished faculty offices

Commitment to Sustainability

The Suter Science Complex will also meet or exceed basic LEED certification requirements. Some of the key “green” features include:

  • No increase to current energy or water usage levels
  • Building materials from nearby sources
  • Energy supplied by natural light and other alternative sources
  • Energy efficient “green” roof
  • Photovoltaic energy panels on roof of new lab
  • Sustainable soil/drainage system utilizing a bioswale
