Leaders Dorothy Jean Weaver and Kevin Clark

Dorothy Jean Weaver is Professor of New Testament at Eastern Mennonite Seminary, where she has taught since 1984. A Harrisonburg native, Weaver holds a B.A. in Modern Languages (German and French) from Eastern Mennonite University (1972), an M.Div. from Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Elkhart, Indiana (1977), and a Ph.D. in New Testament Studies from Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, VA (1987).

Weaver has traveled widely, in Europe, Africa, India, Central America, and the Middle East. And she has taught New Testament courses at the Near East School of Theology, Beirut, Lebanon (1995), the International Center of Bethlehem, Palestine (2000), and the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo, Egypt (2002).

Since 1998 Weaver has been involved in an ongoing study tour program for Middle East travel ("Places, People, & Prayers") offered through Eastern Mennonite Seminary and co-led by Kevin A. Clark, a Virginia Mennonite Conference pastor. Weaver and Clark also collaborate on leading Middle East work groups. In 2002 they co-led an emergency delegation from EMS to Christmas Lutheran Church, Bethlehem, following the Israeli siege of Bethlehem. And in 2004 they co-led a Partners in Mission Work Group to Nazareth and Bethlehem through the Virginia Mennonite Board of Missions. Upcoming trips are scheduled for May 4-27, 2005 (PPP) and May 5-22, 2006 (PIM).

Weaver is a frequent speaker and writer. Her publications include Matthew's Missionary Discourse: A Literary Critical Analysis (Sheffield Academic Press, 1990) and Bread for the Enemy: A Peace and Justice Lectionary (Mennonite Church Peace and Justice Committee, 2001). She serves on the Advisory Board of Friends of Sabeel, North America, a support group for Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center, Jerusalem. Weaver is a member of Community Mennonite Church, Harrisonburg, Virginia.


Kevin A. Clark is an Adjunct Instructor and campus pastor at Eastern Mennonite Seminary. He makes his home in Harrisonburg, Va. with his wife Susan, both originally from Altoona, Pa. They have four children and three grandchildren. Kevin holds a B.A. in Theology and Biblical Studies from Eastern Mennonite University (1992), an M.A. in Church Leadership (1996) with concentrations in Pastoral Counseling and Christian Spiritual Formation and he presently is pursuing a Ph.D. in Spiritual Direction.

Kevin is a pastor, ordained by the Virginia Mennonite Conference (1996) and was pastor of Big Spring Mennonite Church in Luray, Va., from 1996 to 2004. He has 21 years pastoral experience, serving several Christian denominations. Kevin is a part-time instructor at Eastern Mennonite Seminary (1996-present) in the area of Christian Spiritual Formation. He is a spiritual director, retreat leader and board member of Blue Ridge Ministries, Inc. an interdenominational retreat ministry.

Kevin has been involved with Dorothy Jean Weaver in the on-going personal connections and involvement in the "Holy Land". This has included the study tour program for Middle East travel ("Places, People, & Prayers") offered through Eastern Mennonite Seminary (2000), co-leading a Middle East work group through the Virginia Mennonite Board of Missions (2004), Partners in Mission and an emergency delegation from EMS to Christmas Lutheran Church, Bethlehem, following the Israeli siege of Bethlehem (2002).
