Eastern Mennonite University

Distance Learning at EMS

Eastern Mennonite Seminary has been offering distance learning courses for over a decade (first course offered in 1997) in the areas of biblical study, Anabaptist theology, church history, and the practice of ministry (e.g. pastoral care, missional church, and leadership). Currently over a dozen online courses are offered on a two-year cycle with several course offerings each semester as well as during the summer. Students interested in mission or already involved in mission work may want to consider the BLESS program.

If you are interested in testing seminary studies, pursuing a theological degree program in the Anabaptist tradition, growing in your personal and faith journey, or developing your leadership skills further, then an online seminary course offered by EMS can address that interest. In its distance learning courses EMS offers a rich and diverse experience within a vibrant learning community. A highly qualified instructor will lead a dynamic and interactive experience which does not sacrifice the quality which comes with residential studies at EMS.

Courses are offered using the online technology of the Blackboard course management system. This approach to learning means that you do not have to leave your home or community and that you can study at your convenience as you complete weekly units within a standard semester-long learning experience. Most online courses at EMS are taught by full-time faculty and will meet typical requirements of a theological education degree.
