Re: EMU Health Center Changes Affecting Current Students and Parents
Dear EMU Students and Parents:
In keeping with requirements of the Affordable Health Care Act that requires all health centers to implement electronic medical records by 2014, the EMU Health Center has upgraded to the Medicat LLC Electronic Health Record system. This now allows the Health Center to directly bill students’ insurance companies. As a result, EMU is changing how students are billed for health services beginning the week of March 18, 2013.
At the time of service, all students will provide their insurance card and pay the co-pay that is associated with their insurance provider. Co-pays may be paid in either cash, check or with a credit/debit card. EMU will not be able to bill student accounts for health services. Any additional charges above the co-pay will be billed directly to insurance providers through our affiliate, Long Service Agency, Inc. Long’s will handle all billing claims and can be reached at 540-434-1512 or through e-mail at .
After March 18, students will need to bring their health insurance card to every Health Center appointment. Copies of insurance cards are acceptable as long as both sides are legible. Individuals without insurance will need to pay at the time of service by cash, check, or credit/debit card. Again, the Health Center will not be able to bill student accounts for health services.
If you have questions about these changes, please call the Student Life Office at 540-432-4135 and ask for me (Ken), or e-mail me at the address below.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ken L. Nafziger
