Eastern Mennonite University

Welcome from the Director!

Jon Kratz, directorAs an international student attending a U.S. college, the experience can be an exciting and fun-filled journey. Whether your focus is on learning and developing proficiency in the English language, receiving a college degree in a specific area of study, growing in your faith expression, and/or trying something wonderfully new, it’s an opportunity of a lifetime!

Here at EMU, the student life department is committed to creating and maintaining a challenging and supportive living and learning community. To that end, our work fosters these elements: 1) the intellectual, social/emotional, physical, and spiritual development of all students 2) the common university enterprise of learning, and 3) effective life skills for living and working in a diverse and global community.

The International Student Service Office (ISS) is here to serve you. My hope is to see you have a great experience and receive the most out of your time abroad. I am available to assist with things such as, understanding immigration processes and issues, adjusting to a new culture, housing situations, understanding academic standards, one-on-one problem solving, and much more. Also, during the academic year, there will be numerous activities to get to know other students (international and US), faculty, staff, community members and myself. As you have individual questions, concerns or just want to talk, please feel free to stop by the international student services office.

May your EMU experience be one of growing, learning, and understanding.

Sincerely,

Jonathan A. Kratz
