Irwin Shaw's Bury the Dead

The fall 2004 mainstage production is a timeless play set during “the war that is to begin tomorrow night." The action opens onto a group of soldiers ordered to bury their fallen comrades. Resisting the grave, the dead arise and doggedly refuse to surrender their lives to a war they never understood. Chaos, both bold and wickedly funny, ensues.

Generals order the former soldiers to return to the ground. Journalists label it an enemy plot. Family members and friends beg them to accept the “honor” of death. Slowly, however, Shaw's world begins to spin about on its head as the living find truth in the dead, the only ones who finally understand war.

Bury the Dead ran Nov. 2-6 at 7:30 p.m. in Lehman Auditorium.

The play was directed by interim Assistant Professor of Theater, Patrick Reynolds. Sophomore theater major Christina Myers was Stage Manager and Miriam Yoder is Production Manager. Cast and crew included Jennifer Wilcox, Joy Boardman, Pam Mandigo, Malerie Plank, Matt Pearson, Davi Soesilo, Rachel Schrock, Amber Showalter, Roxy Michael, Kevin Ressler, Shannon Terranova, Peter Nelson, Amanda Opoku Amuaben, Liz Syre, and Zelda Sligh.
